Commún: Harnessing the Power of Community for Effective Change
Bella’s support of the Denver non-profit Commún reflects our dedication to Community Development, a core pillar of our work that seeks out partnerships with organizations who drive locally-led solutions so youth, families, and communities can thrive in stronger, more connected social fabrics. Commún was founded in 2018 after its co-founders hosted over 500 conversations with Southwest Denver residents to learn what they value, love, and need most in their community.
Bella is proud to be a donor to Commún’s capital campaign, which is raising funds to develop and build a multi-service community center designed for and by Southwest Denver residents.
Who they are
Commún is a Southwest Denver non-profit organization created by the community, for the community. Commún strengthens community resilience by developing programs that elevate community voices, build a sense of belonging, and advance equity. What began as a conversation among neighbors has grown into a powerful grassroots movement designed to confront displacement.
What they do
Commún programs focus on five areas: food sovereignty, mental health, economic vitality, community leadership, and navigating members to essential services. Commún’s oldest program is their weekly food distribution, which provides community members access to healthy and culturally relevant food. The non-profit also offers digital literacy classes, ear acupuncture, and case navigation support.
Why it’s important
Commún is operating with the understanding that the community knows what its needs are and how to best address them. By fostering a deep sense of belonging among community members, Commún mobilizes people-power to build sustainable futures for all. Their passion and determination has led them on a journey to build a community center on the historic Loretto Heights campus, from which their impact can grow even deeper.
